A cleaning hose (5), lowered through a shaft (1) into a diverging sewer pipe (2), is charged with cleaning fluid, pref. water separated from mud sucked up from the sewer. The shaft is sealable from the sewer pipe treated by the hose, by means of a suspended flap (16), with hole for hose passage, lowered to the level of the sewer, guarding against spray. This has an apron (17) hanging down, from above the sewer pipe opening (9) in the shaft walling (10) to the shaft bottom (8), at least as wide as the clear space in the sewer pipe. The top of the apron can be fastened to a carrier loop (10), with holder, on the flap. The shaft can be kept largely free from aerosol.
