A dyeing column for holding a vertical series of yarn packages for pressure dyeing, bleaching, etc., and during the subsequent drying process has a base plate carrying a cylindrical array of rods or thin-walled tubes which are joined together at the upper end by a cover plate. Tubes may have a longitudinal slit down the outer side which is in contact with the yarn package. The column has an open surface of approx. 75%, compared to the maximum of about 20% for a perforated tubular column, giving a faster, more uniform liquor flow through the packages with less pumping power, and faster, more efficient drying.
