Provision separate from swivel drive is made for horizontally sliding slits, with transition from one form of movement automatically controlled. A reversable intermediate member connects the motor as appropriate to sliding components or to swivel spindle, in a venetian blind with vertical swivelling and sliding slats . Here additional translatory movement into slow motion for activation of the swivelling spindle (18) is brought about via epicyclic gearing (78,79,81). The central shaft (72) is led through a hole in the centre of this, so that drive from the motor (1) and the two down-drives are coaxial with each other. The intermediate member may be activated by an electromagnet; or mechanically by lever and bolt. Drive is compact enough for building into a confined space.
