A process for the expression of a gene, foreign to a host organism, coding for a protein, in a suitable vehicle, which comprises taking said gene and fusing it in the correct orientation relative to a transcriptional initiation region present in the vehicle, and inserting the vehicle into a eukaryotic host. For example, the gene for chicken ovalbumin can be expressed in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
