Soft tablets or granules for inhalation administration - of e.g. disodium cromoglycate

New medicaments in the form of soft tablets of granules 10-1000 mu in dia. comprise an agglomeration of medicament particles of which =90% have a dia. of 10 mu. The tablets or granules have (a) a total transmitted load redn. (TTLR) of 100 g., and/or (b) a prod. of the TTLR and the response lag (RL exceeding 30 g./cm, and/or (c) an RL of =0.3 cm. Pref. new medicaments are inhalation medicaments for the treatment of allergic disorders of the respiratory tract, esp. those contg. a pharmaceutically acceptable salt of 1, 3-bis(2-carboxychromon-5-yloxy)propan-2-ol, esp. disodium chromoglycate. Disodium chromoglycate contG. 12-25% water is claimed as a novel entity. Also claimed is disodium chromoglycate in tablet or granule form with an unstamped bulk density of below 0.3 g;/cc. (esp. 0.2-0.3 g./cc). The new granules or tablets are suitable for filling into devices of the "Spinhlaer" (RTM) type. Under the conditions in such devices at the time of inhalation, they break down into fine particles with good flow properties giving good inhalation. However, their agglomerated form facilitates filling into the capsules used in the devices.
