The seat belt blocking mechanism has a device which blocks the seat belt uncoiling movement at sudden deceleration of the vehicle, but allows the seat belt to be pulled out further, after the tension on the belt is relaxed. The mechanism consists of a housing in which the seat belt spool is keyed-on a shaft. One end of the shaft is fitted with spiral spring (16) with its end fixed to the housing and the shaft. The other shaft end has a ratchet wheel (26) and crank (24) both fitted loosely on the shaft end. The crank has an eyelet on which a catch (30) is hinged. During sudden deceleration inertia on element displaces the catch from its basic position and the tip of the catch engages with one of the teeth on the ratchet wheel, so that the crank and ratchet wheel are coupled together.
