Separator for removing liquids from particulate solids - incorporates removable baffles confining some solid on perforated screen constituting working surface, minimising wear by abrasion

An appts. for removing liq. from a material in the form of solid particles, comprising a mobile part provided with a working surface consistuted by a perforated screen through which the liq. passes while the solid particles are carried along the surface, incorporates a number of removable baffles. These baffles are applied against the working surface so as to constitute obstacles to the movement of the solid particles. The particles form an immobile layer which acts as a filter. The baffles can be raised so as to clear the working surface and free the layer of material retained by them. Typically, the mobile part is a conical basket diverging upwards with a wall constituted by a screen. The basket is rotated about a vertical axis. The liq. passes through the wall while the solid particles are laid on the wall by one component of the centrifugal force and subjected to a rising movement by the other. The baffles are coaxial circles of different diameters connected by radial arms to a free vertical shaft which can move in relation to the driving shaft of the basket and which is driven by that shaft.
