Launder feeding molten cast iron into centrifugal casting machine - where launder is turned upside down after casting and knocked by pneumatic hammer to remove dross

A tilting ladle feeds the molten iron onto the launder and, after filling the mould, the launder is rotated through 180 degrees so it is upside down. A pneumatic hammer or vibrator is then used on the launder to ensure that metal and dross residues remaining in the launder after casting are knocked out. The plant pref. includes a stationary frame employed to carry a pneumatic hammer, which is located near the inlet end of the launder. The launder is pref. mounted on a holder, which can be rotated through 180 degrees by a motor. The pneumatic hammer may also be employed on a casting machine fitted with two launders which are used alternately. Complete removal of residues left in the launder after casting is obtd.
