Wind turbine for electricity generation - uses horizontally mounted rotor with hemispherical cups rotating about vertical axle driving gear train

The wind driven turbine for electricity generator is mounted on a pylon (10) so that its rotor (1) is horizontal. The light aluminium alloy rotor has six hemispherical cups (2) mounted at equal spacing round its periphery. The cups with their concave face towards the wind experience a greater force than those with their convex face towards the wind, thus the wind produces rotation of the rotor. A particular advantage is that there is no need to orient the rotor towards the wind, and the wind turbine is self-starting. Inside a sealed casing (9) a lubricated gear train (3,5,6,7) increases the speed of rotation so the dynamo (9) is driven at a sufficiently high speed for normal operation.
