The propulsion system is for a road vehicle with two steering wheels, articulated to another vehicle (2) with two driven wheels (R1,R2) at the end of an axle (3), driven by a differential (4). There is automatic transfer of a couple from inner to outer wheels on a curve. The rear vehicle has driven wheels, engine driven via half shafts, a gearbox and a differential. This pushes the front vehicle. There is included a reversible, hydraulic motor/pump (5,6) connected to the half shafts. The hydraulic circuit is controlled to alter torque according to the vehicle speed and angle between the two halves.
