Controller for interface between microprocessor and telephone network - uses sequence controller to access intermediate memory which holds complete data while microprocessor holds address only
A microprocessor is used to interface control logic into an electro-mechanical telephone network. The microprocessor and its related electronic circuits allow interfacing with reduced cabling requirements. Binary data fields are transferred between the processor (mP) and the interface (IN) via a temporary memory (BM). A sequence controller (SQ) on the microprocessor output delivers command words, in step by step sequence, comprising an address in the memory, the address of a point in the interface, the required binary data fields, and the sense of the data interchange to or from the interface. Data on each interface transaction are held in temporary memory and only the address at which it is held is known to the microprocessor. Each of the known memory addresses is sequentially scanned and data transferred between interface locations in accord with the command sequence.
