Vanadium recovery from steel making slag - by redn. with pig iron addn. and selective oxidn. of vanadium

In the recovery of vanadium from the slag obtd. in steel prodn. from sponge iron, pref. by the electroslag process, by subjecting the slag to reduction to produce a vanadium-contg. pig iron, an additional amt. of vanadium-free or low-vanadium pig iron is added during reduction, and then the resulting vanadium pig iron is selectively oxidised, by the 'agitated ladle' process to give a vanadium-rich slag. The increased quantity of pig-iron gives improved extraction of vanadium from the slag and improved control of vanadium yield and the vanadium concn. in the final slag.
