PRE-COLUMN AND CARTRIDGE COLUMN FOR LIQUID-PHASE CHROMATOGRAPHY

A description is given of a precolumn for liquid chromatography which comprises a cylindrical tube having a liquid inlet and outlet at both ends. In the cylindrical tube, the column contains a cartridge column which is packed with a dry packing material. The precolumn according to the invention is very effective in extending the service life of the main (chromatography) column if it is situated upstream of the main column. It can also be used on its own for various purposes if the cartridge column it contains is replaced or if the packing material in the cartridge column is replaced.
