The sponge (S) for car body cleaning has a piped water supply which is fed into a cavitised (L) sponge core. The connection between the supply pipe and the sponge includes a length of supple small bore coupling hose (Z). The coupler (Z) slides onto a spigot piece (M) which is then inserted in the sponge cavity (L). Binding (B) around the neck of he opening to the sponge cavity then secures the connection. The coupler (Z) may be 9mm and 90 cm long and the spigot piece (M) may include a check ring (A) and a distance piece. the sponge may have an imperious finish to all but the working surface (W), and the sponge cavity (L) may run parallel to the working surface (W).
