摘要
Thermally insulating slabs with a hard, tough surface for cladding internal or external walls, partitions, floors or roofs have a core of cellular material covered with a thin layer of mortar (sand or cement) reinforced with fibres of an alkali-resistant glass. Pref. the core is made from beads of expanded polystyrene bonded by phenolic resin. Typically the reinforced cover is 4-5 mm thick, unless covered with a softer coating of e.g. PVC about 1.5-2 mm thick, when the cover may be about 3 mm thick. Pref. the edges of walls of the slabs are bevelled, for ease of handling and to allow drainage/ventilation beneath the joints: pref. slabs are laid up to 6 mm apart, the gap being bridged with a flexible seal or mastic, to tolerate small variations of size or alignment. Suitable for insulating existing structures, without requiring skilled labour.
