The grenade consists of a tubular can contg. at least 1 tear gas charge inside a hollow sphere provided with at least 1 hole so the gas travels along uncoordinated zigzag paths after the grenade is ignited. The grenade has a delayed igniter plug, and an explosive charge driving the sphere out of the can. In one pref. grenade, two hollow spheres, each contg. a tear gas charge ignited by a relay, are ejected by another, explosive charge. Each sphere pref. rests on a support plate with a spherical recess contg. a hole so the explosive charge can be brought into contact with the tear gas charges. The tear gas is spread over a wide area, so it is very difficult for humans to avoid exposure to the gas.
