Blended fuels based on petroleum fraction and methanol - contg. mixt. of butanol and acetone

New fuels comprise (a) gasoline, gas oil or domestic fuel oil; (b) a mixt. of butanol and acetone; and (c) methanol, where component (b) is pref. obtained by fermentation of an enzymatic cellulose hydrolysate. The fuels generally have better combustion properties (e.g. octane or cetane no.) than component (a) alone, have continuous distn. curves and good water tolerance, and can be used in conventional engines or burners. Prefd. fuels comprise 5-97 (esp. 5-95) wt.% (a), 1-95 (esp. 5-95) wt.% (b) and 1-25 wt.% (c). Specifically claimed fuels contain 80-96 wt.% (a), 1-10 wt.% (b) and 3-10 wt.% (c).
