The self contained hydraulic actuator unit has an electric motor, a hydraulic pump, a hydraulic fluid reservoir, a hydraulic distributor, and the hydraulic cylinder mounted together as a single unit. The electric motor has a cam plate fitted on the end of its shaft. The cam operates the pistons of a hydraulic pump. The axes of the pistons are parallel to the motor shaft. Hydraulic fluid is pumped from a reservoir attached to the pump. Motor, pump, and reservoir are in a common cylindrical housing. The hydraulic cylinder and distributor valve are housed in a second cylinder fixed to and parallel to the motor/pump cylinder. Passages perpendicular to motor and hydraulic cylinder axes link the pump to the distributor valve which controls the operation of the hydraulic cylinder.
