The guillotine shear comprises a top knife moved against a fixed bottom one, and a shear table. Adjacent to the table is a supporting table, whose length is a multiple of that of the top knife. The guillotine frame (3) is movable in the lengthwise direction in guide rails along one of the table sides, and on the other side is supported from the ground by a drive mechanism acting on another rail. The bottom knife is fixed to one or the other of the tables for its entire length. Clamps for the sheet material (2) act against the tables, and on one side of the frame there is a rotary cutting tool (30) such as a circular saw, which can be raised and lowered in guides. The saw cuts along a line parallel to the shear knife, so as to part strips off the sheet material.
