Welding different metals by transverse vibration of electron beams - concentrating beam on metal with high and preventing concentration on member with low thermal conductivity
In a process for welding different metals together by an electron beam, the joint to be made is fed past the beam at a speed of V mm/second. The beam is oscillated transversely across the joint at an angle (alpha) determined from the formula:- where A is the amplitude of the transverse oscillations in mm of the beam, and f is the frequency of the oscillations. The angle (alpha) is the angle of the path taken by the oscillations w.r.t. the longitudinal direction of travel of the seam past the beam. In an example, steel was welded to bronze using an angle (alpha) of 66 deg. 22 minutes. The welds obtd. are hermetic and possess high strength.
