Remote control for power network by digitally encoded signals - uses medium frequency digitally encoded signals transmitted along power network and detected to drive relays to connect appliance to network
The network (22,24) in a building or home has remote switching of various appliances using a digitally encoded signal carried along the distribution network and detected by controllers associated with individual appliances. A home computer may be incorporated to provide automatic control of the appliances. The distribution network (22,24) is radial with branches taken off. Particular appliances (P30-P34) are connected to the network through relays which operate under control of a detector network (R30-R34) associated with each relay. The detector networks extract the medium frequency signal transmitted along the power network in digitally encoded sequences from emitters (E30-E34) which may be centrally located or distributed round the network. A home computer (54), with suitable interfacing (155), may be used to control operation of the devices on the network.
