The telephone housing, designed as a piece of furniture, comprises a box (1) with a lid formed by the top and front walls (3,4) hinged to the rear wall. The telephone sits inside the box with the handset supported on its own rest in the box. In order, therefore, to simulate a replaced handset a flange (6) secured to the underside of the lid is positioned to act as a 'handset' and depress the telephone switch dogs (7) when the lid is closed. When the housing is designed as a drawer a crank-shaped lever is provided which pivots into contact with the switch dogs when the draw is closed.
