The actuator is of the type which has a cross-head block which pushes the syringe piston rod as the block is displaced along a guide rod. Displacement of the block is effected by motor driven rotation of a jacking screw which engages a disengageable nut in the block. The block now slides on two parallel guide rods. The jacking nut is made up of two semi-cylindrical shells which are disengaged from the screw by a pair of levers which are moved to open and close the shells.
