Switching circuit for vehicle town lamps - uses relay in the motor vehicle ignition circuit to switch town lights in parallel with vehicles parking lamps

The side lights are mounted on the front of the vehicle and have light output midway between that of the parking lamps and the main head lamps. The legal requirement of a light level greater than that of the parking lamps while driving in towns is thus met while not using the same energy as required for the main headlamps. The electric circuit uses the ignition switch (8) to actuate a relay (6,7), connecting the town lights (4) in parallel with the parking lights (2). When the driver closes the switch (3) turning on the parking lamps, the supply is connected to both parking lamps and town lights. A diode may be placed between the output contacts of the relay.
