Antitheft lock for motor vehicle - uses spiral path cut in face of lock barrel with S bend in path which must be negotiated before key withdrawal

The lock for a motor vehicle has a barrel type lock with a bolt which disables an essential vehicle function when the lock key is withdrawn. To prevent accidental actuation of the disabling device a mechanical interlock requiring that the key be turned in the opposite direction before withdrawal is incorporated. The tongue (2) of the disabling bolt runs in a guide path (7,8,9,10,11) cut into the face of the lock barrel. The path is a flattened 'S' bend (8,9,10) so that in moving the key from the off the motor start position a short opposite rotation is needed to clear the 'S', while to withdraw the key the 'S' must be fully negotiated so the key can be rotated to a point where it may be withdrawn.
