The device is used to support components (2,3...4), e.g. printed circuits boards, in a stack in such a way that the top of the stack stays at a constant level, corresp., for example, to the input or output of a machine fitted with a conveyor belt. The device comprises an input or output tray (1) and a system to adjust its height as a function of the load formed by the components placed on the tray (1). The height adjusting system contains a float (5) connected to the tray (1) and a container (7) filled with a liq. (6) which supports the tray (1). Detectors compare the actual level of the stack of components with the wanted level in order to vary the amount of liq. (6) in the container (7).
