Safe electric hair drier for use in wet conditions - has earthed screens at air inlet and outlet for operating protective devices when hair dryer is in contact with water

The electric hair drier is made safe in a humid environment or if dropped into water by the incorporation of an earthed metal screen inside the case which diverts leakage current and causes the protective devices in the domestic installation to operate, thus preventing electrocution of the user. The hair-drier is of conventional construction, having an electric motor (6) driven fan (7) which draws air in through a screen (9) and forces it over a resistance heating element (8). The earthed screens (14,15) are placed behind both air inlets (9) and air outlets (11) serving the dual function of mechanical screening and electrical safety. The inlet and outlet are shaped to prevent contact with the earthed screen.
