METHOD FOR REPAIRING CRACKING OF BLAST FURNACE SHELL

PURPOSE:To repair the cracked part of a shell securely, by gouging said part to form a proper groove, and bringing a backing strip into contact with the gouged part, interposing a spacer member in the groove and welding the same thereby repairing the cracked part. CONSTITUTION:The cracked part 2 of a shell 1 is first gouged to form a groove 4. The gouging is executed down to the rear (the furnace inside) 1a of the shell 1 in order to remove the crack 2 thoroughly, so as to form the groove 4 having a suitable root gap (t) on the rear 1a of the shell. A backing strip 5 is brought into contact with the rear 1a so as to face the root 4a and a spacer member 6 is mounted in the groove 4. The groove in this state is welded and repaired, whereby the rear 1a of the shell is welded surely without generation of any welding defect.
