NEW MATERIAL:The 1,2,4-dithiazolidine-3,5-dione compound of formulaI(R is lower alkyl; x is H or halogen). EXAMPLE:Methyl 2-(3,5-dioxo-1,2,4-dithiazolidin-4-yl)phenylacetate. USE:Useful as a germicide. It exhibits strong antimold acitivity against various pathogenic mold of agricultural and horticultural plants. It has remarkable effect for the control of e.g. rice blast, downey mildew, anthracnose of fruits, etc., and is useful as an agent for controlling plant diseases. It also exhibits strong fungicidal activity against pathogenic fungi of man and animals, and is useful as an antifungal agent for medical use. It has no phytotoxicity to agricultural crops, low toxicity to man, animal, fish and small animals in the environment, and has high safety. PROCESS:The compound of formulaIis prepared by reacting the thiocarbamate of formula II (R1 is lower alkyl) with chlorocarbonyl sulfenyl chloride.
