Benzyl esters of the formula (I) see diagramm : EP0075146,P32,F2 in which R represents the radical of an acid which can be used in pyrethroids, R**1 represents hydrogen or cyano, R**2 represents trifluoromethoxy and R**3 represents hydrogen or halogen or R**2 and R**3 together represent fluorine-substituted dioxymethylene, R**4 represents halogen and n represents 0, 1, 2 or 3, with the proviso that in the case where R**2 represents OCF3 one of the radical R**3 or R**4 must represent fluorine and furthermore with the proviso that when R**2 and R**3 represent fluorine-substituted dioxymethylene, n represents 1 and R**4 must represent fluorine in the 6-position.
