A self aligning and self centering coupling device for a switch cubicle r compartment door which comprises a shaft coupler consisting of a fork shaped member the shank whereof is adapted to be rigidly connectable to the switch shaft at different orientations and the prongs whereof are provided internally with symmetrically tapered conical recesses and externally with collars towards their ends, a handle coupler consisting of a rod one end where of defines a head having symmetrically tapered conical projections corresponding to the symmetrically tapered conical recesses provided internally of the prongs towards their ends, a housing adapted to be rigidly connectable to the cubicle or compartment door, spring means provided in the housing for holding the rod at an intermediate position between the off and on position of the switch when door is open, and a handle connected to the other end of the rod rigidly and unidirectionally, and wherein the prongs ends of the fork shaped member and the fee end of the head of the rod are symmetrically tapered such that the head of the rod will describe a spin at the tapered prongs ends and thereby align itself into the fork shaped member as the door closes.
