DEMAND ASSIGNMENT TECHNIQUE FOR TDMASATELLITE COMMUNICATION NETWORKABSTRACTIn a time division multiple access satellite communi-cation system, a reference station which allocateschannel capacity also regulates demand by the groundstations for that capacity. The regulation is accom-plished by means in the reference station for trans-mitting limiting, blocking and revocation messages tothe ground stations and means in the ground stationsresponsive to these messages to regulate the processingof input service requests. The limiting messages notifythe ground stations to limit their channel usage to thechannels required in the last demand message transmittedbut not to exceed their last channel assignment. Theblocking messages instruct the ground stations tounconditionally block any new requests for service ontheir input ports, rather than counting such calls asincrements of demand, and thereby effectively reduce theaggregate demand in the system. When the referencestation observes that a sufficient decrease in channelrequirements occurs, resulting in an increasing sparecapacity, it revokes the previously communicated blockingmessages by a revocation message.MA9-78-11
