ABSTRACT OF THEDISCLOSUREThe invention relates to a process for decreasingthe contaminant content of aluminium melte or of aluminiumalloy melts, in the first line their content of alkalimetal, of hydrogen gas and of solid non-metallic contaminants,especially oxides in a way that an inert gas of a pressurebelow 2 atmospheres, preferably nitrogen gas containinga powder which develops chlorine gas is led into thealuminium melt or aluminium alloy melt isolated from theair, at a temperature of 670 - 860 °C.
