摘要
ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURESulfur-containing compounds such as hydrogen sulfideand sulfur oxides arising from gasification or combustion oforganic fuels such as coal may be removed from the hot gases byattrition resistant, highly reactive limestone-based sorbentagglomerates. The agglomerates are formed by crushing andpowdering naturally occurring limestone into grains with abinder that is stable at high temperature, for example a colloi-dal grade of attapulgite clay. Volatile liquid is added to themix of binder and powdered limestone to form a paste-like mix-ture, which is then agglomerated in compression-type agglomerat-ing equipment to form spheroidal agglomerates having good greenstrength. In fluidized bed combustion applications, these ag-glomerates have attrition resistance equivalent to conventionalnatural limestone granules and far more reactive in terms ofsulfur pickup.
