AbstractA method is provided for recovering energy from wastedcoal by the steps of creating at least one channel through thewasted coal, igniting the wasted coal in said channel,subjecting said wasted coal, at least at said channel, to anegative pressure applied at a preselected point, connectingsaid wasted coal, at least at said channel, to a source of airremote from said preselected point whereby air is inducedthrough said ignited coal to burn said coal to produce hotgaseous products of combustion and the hot gaseous products ofcombustion are drawn to said point, and utilizing said hotgaseous products of combustion in a heat exchange relationshipto recover the heat energy therefrom.
