According to this method the pressurized heat accumulators are incorporated into the steam circuit of the power plant. These accumulators are charged by a supply of waste heat produced in the plant, for example during startup or shutdown or during periods of reduced production of electricity, and are unloaded at a greater heat demand , by release of heat accumulated in the water-steam circuit. The differences in the electric power supplied by the unit are offset by a change in the charging current or discharging heat accumulators. In the plant for carrying out the process the batteries are connected in bypass on the water side with the condensation circuit and are connected on the steam side, with the medium-pressure system or the intermediate superheater steam circuit or with steam taken at medium or low pressure turbines.
