The invention relates to a process and an apparatus for the automatic or semi-automatic separation of adjusted textile articles, especially knitted articles, the separating points of which are provided with fusion separation yarns, the textile articles being exposed to heat treatment by which the fusion separation yarns are melted and during this treatment are separated completely from one another. For this, the articles entering a heated finishing device on a conveyor band and connected to one another by fusion separation yarns are subjected to a surface friction effect with simultaneous heating and consequent melting of the fusion separation yarns. This is obtained in that the lower conveyor band transporting the articles has a higher speed than an upper conveyor band coming into contact with the articles above the lower conveyor band. The separated articles are removed from the separation zone by means of a further upper conveyor band which follows this upper conveyor band and the speed of which corresponds to that of the lower conveyor band.
