The invention relates to a device for fitting tarpaulin on and removing tarpaulin from lorries and their trailers. The device is characterised in that, at the end of a rod, there is a hook which is bent in the direction of the rod with a bending angle (w) in the region of 125 to 210 DEG and with a hook span (s) in the region of 4 to 40 cm, and at the end of the rod or on the hook there is a freely projecting pin with which the tarpaulin can be caught, raised and pulled off. The device permits the fitting and removal of tarpaulin and installation and removal of boards without the aid of a ladder.
