Optically pure alpha -aminophenylacetic acids which are substituted on the alpha -phenyl ring, of the general formula I IMAGE in which R1, R2, R3, R4, R5, R6 and n are as defined in the description, an enzymatic process for their preparation by stereoselective cleavage of suitable racemic derivatives of the abovementioned amino acids, followed by conversion into the D- or L-amino acids, and their use as intermediates in the preparation of medicines.
