The device serves for the automatic compensation of axial misalignments in the case of intermeshing gearwheels (1, 2). There are cases in which continuously satisfactory alignment of the gearwheel discs is not possible since external influences can result in a continuous change in the position and direction of one axle. In order nevertheless to obtain satisfactory tooth engagement, the driving pinion (1) must be able to follow changes in alignment. The pinion is therefore fixed to the pinion housing (4, 5, 6) by means of lamellae (7) allowing axial misalignments to be compensated by elastic deformation of the lamellae. However, the lamellae are connected on the other side to a bearing journal (8), the axis of rotation of which extends perpendicularly to the plane of the lamellae with the result that deviation errors can also be compensated by swivelling of the pinion housing about the axis of the bearing journal.
