Ribbon re-inking machine comprises an air-tight ink reservoir (12) having an inlet (24) which is sealed (26) once ink has been added whilst an inking roller (14) fits in an outlet (28) on the same side as the inlet. Ink flows onto the roller when the reservoir and whole machine is inverted for use. An air inlet (32) is provided on the other side of the reservoir from the outlet and roller and that inlet is opened when the reservoir is inverted, so that ink flows only during rotation of the roller when a ribbon is moved over it.
