Small clamp or vice, esp. for watchmakers, allows fragile or soft watch glasses to be held symmetrically around the circumference and permits chamfering and fitting. The clamp is hand operated and consists of a split jaw carrier (1) having a conical under-surface (2) seated within a conical cavity (4) such that pulling the two parts together forces the carrier sides inwards. The jaw carriers are symmetrically spaced around the vertical axis and have individual angled set screws (9) to allow the shape of the gripping area to be varied. Each jaw consists of a series of thin laminations allowing complex shapes to be held, the shape being retained by tightening the set screw. A cover plate (11) secures the jaws over the carrier. Operation is by a shaft (6) through the apex of the cones.
