Process for gasification of carbonaceous solid fuels in a fluidised bed reactor incorporates subjecting fuels to pyrolysis before they enter the reactor, by contacting with hot gases produced in the reactor. Volatile cpds. which are liberated during pyrolysis are mixed with the gases produced in the reactor and discharged with them. Invention improves existing processes for gasification of solid fuels, described in French patents 1092540, 1103538 and more partic. gasification in a deep fluidised bed as described in French patent 2261051, in allowing lowering of the temp. of the gas produced and recovery of chemical prods. of interest.
