In the gasification of solid fuel with oxygen-contg. gas and/or steam, CO2 or other gases in a fluidised bed reactor, the temp. profile along and/Or across the reactor axis is controlled by addn. of reactants not only to the fluid bed zone, but in one or more points in the middle and/or upper zone of the post-reaction space above the bed. Flexibility of operation of the reactors is increased, allowing their use with fuels differing from those for which they were designed and variation in the prod. gas compsn.
