The feeder circuit includes a preheater for the filler material; and the temp. of the preheated filler is used to control the speed at which the filler wire or tape is fed towards the workpieces. Gases used during welding or brazing as fuels, oxidants, or reducing agents are also switched off while the workpieces are being changed, so savings in gas consumption are also achieved. The filler wire or tape is pref. fed through a guide tube, the outlet zone of which is heated, whereas its inlet zone is cooled. Outlet zone is fitted with a thermocouple used to control the feeder motor, and also to adjust the vol. of a coolant fed into the inlet zone of the guide tube. Used e.g. in MIG, MAG, or TIG welding; or to permit the use of Ni-Cr-Mo alloys instead of Ag- or Au- alloys in brazing.
