The dental instrument comprises two contained arms (1,2) which are pivoted together. Each arm has a handle portion (7) and a tip (8) which has a curved end and an inwardly bent hooked end (11). The pivot between the arms is formed by two flanged discs (13,14) which face one another to form a circular rib which cooperates with a curved groove on the inner faces of the two arms. The two discs have a central cavity in which is fitted the spherical end (21) of the stem of a percussion instrument. The orientation of the instrument is varied by moving the stem (S) relative to the gripping tool via the rotary joint (4).
