Tundish assembly for continuous casting of steel - where two blooms can be cast simultaneously by inserting dividing wall into mould

A continuous casting plant includes a tower with two swivel arms, each carrying one ladle with a bottom pour stopper. Adjacent to the ladle tower is a pivot mounting for two arms which each carry a tundish; and the two tundishes are identical. Each tundish has a central hole (a) which can be closed by a stopper, and a hole (b) near one end. By rotation of the four pivot arms, either ladle and either tundish may be used; both holes (a,b) are open when two billets or blooms are being cast simultaneously, but only hole (b) is used when casting a slab. For example, a plant used to cast a slab with a cross-section of 1000 x 250 mm can be rapidly converted for the simultaneous casting of two blooms, each 250 mm thick.
