High power triode valve with rod control grid - uses multiple focussed radial electron beams for high current and efficiency with cooled electrodes
High power triode valve with rod control grid - uses multiple focussed radial electron beams for high current and efficiency with cooled electrodes
The coaxial valve operates at hundreds of kV and hundres of Amps. The valve consists of a cathode, a control electrode in the form of rods and a compartmentalised anode bounded by frames. The cathode is in the form of surface emitting slabs along the length of the tube mounted inside focus electrodes (9) in the form of slot cylinders at equipotential with the cathode. Each cathode produces a focussed electron beam directed radially between two control rods. There is a protection electrode in the form of a cylinder with longitudinal slits between the control electrode and the anode compartment. The anode frames have perpendicular auxiliary frames (16) in front of them, the edges of which form a window for the electron beam. The electrode rods, the anodes are hollow and the outer case is double walled, with a coolant (19) filling the spaces. The width of each cathode, the anode window width, the control rod to cathode distance and the depth of the anode compartment are all related by given inequalities.
