The hydraulic folding press uses an elastic system to eproduce and offset the machine deflection under operational forces. The reproduced deflection is on the same elasticity scale as the machine and modifies the distance travelled by the folding tool by an equivalent distance, the system using the fact that the deflection is directly proportional to the hydraulic actuating pressure. The arrangement obviates the resetting of the press to effect the same operation on pieces of different length but of the same section. It has a pump (14) to put fluid (15) under pressure and drive a piston (13) and rod (12) coupled to the tool, (2). A pivot (18') cam is mounted on an arm (18) cantilevered from the rod, pivoted by a fixed adjustable stop (20) as it ascends. It displaces a movable stop (22) actuating a pressure release valve to arrest tool movement.
