Master alloy contg. numerous alloying elements including copper - for mfg. high strength alloy cast iron with pearlitic structure in both thick and thin cast sections

The master alloy contains by wt. 3-7% nickel, 3-7.5% silicon, 1-3% chromium, 0.2-0.5% cobalt, 1-2.5% carbon, 1-7% copper, the remainder being iron. The alloy cast iron made using the master alloy is employed e.g. in mechanical structures, esp. in machine tools, where guides 40-150 mm thick are combined with thin cast sections of 15-30 mm. The master alloy produces cast irons with a pearlitic structure contg. no ferrite, and with increased resistance to wear.
